A Hijab Story of an American Muslim Convert

Asalamu Alaikum! My name is Katherine, I am a German
American, Born and raised in America. Although I was raised
a Christian I started to have doubts about my religion,
there were a lot of things about it I did not believe nor
understand. When I turned 15 I think I gave up on
Christianity.
I soon started to look at other religions, but I had no
interest in them. Until one day a friend of mine told me
about Ramadahan, I was very interested because I had never
heard anything like that before. That night I went home and
looked it up on the internet, and I feel in love with the
belief behind it. I decided that I was going to fast with
the Muslims, and every night during Ramadahan I read a part
of the Quran. By the end of Ramadahan I had pretty much
made up my mind, I wanted to be a Muslim.
I still had not been to a Mosque or even meet a sheik.
After a while I learned how to pray, and I started to play
around with the idea of wearing a Hijab. My family at this
point was still basically unaware of the changes I had been
going through. That is until my mother found a picture of
me wearing a Hijab, she freaked out on me. She kept asking
me why I would do something like that to my self, she hated
the idea of me wearing a Hijab.
For a couple of months me and my mother were not talking to
each other. My father and I still talked but my mother
refused. I was only 16 about to be 17 at this point and I
was a junior in high school. I had not put on Hijab on yet,
but not because of my mother but more because I went to a
very racist school, and I did not want the harassment I
knew I would get. After a while my mother came around and
she and I started talking again. By the next year I
graduated, the day after I graduated I put Hijab on and I
took my Shahada (declaration of faith), and I have been a
devout Muslim since.
As for my family HumduAllah, they have came around. My
mother now tells me how beautiful I look with a Hijab on,
and she even goes Hijab shopping with me. My father and I
are as close as ever, and I see my family as much as I
possibly can. I am now engaged to a good Muslim man, who
treats me better than I could ever imagine.
Everything I have gone through I think was a test from
Allah, he has brought me close to my family and even closer
to him. My advice to all Muslim women who are considering
Hijab would be to tell them that, Allah can give you
everything if you just believe in him in your heart. If you
pray and ask him for something Inshallah you will get it.
But first and foremost NEVER give up faith in him, Allah
Akbar, (Allah is great) and it will reflect in your life.
To me every Muslim woman who wears Hijab is the most
beautiful woman in the world. So try not to worry about
other people, just worry about what Allah thinks about you.
