Just the fact that you are interested in wearing hijab is a wonderful thing in itself. It is a good sign that you are serious about moving forward in this life as a better Muslimah inshallah.
I remember when it was a week before I began to wear hijab at my job, I couldn't help but ask a few people what they would think If i began to wear hijab. In my heart, I knew it was what I had to do. I remember feeling a little rushed that I had to wear it before Allah s.w.t. wouldn't give me the chance to be able to. Unfortunate things happen at the blink of an eye, and we have to remember that as we go on in this life. I believe that in your heart, you would not want to leave this life not wearing hijab right?
A common question that goes through ones mind, prior to wearing hijab is "What would they think"? If we worry ourselves with what others think then who are we truly serving in this life; the people or Allah s.w.t.? Let us turn that question around and say "What would Allah s.w.t. think?" and make a du3a and find the question in our hearts.
Have you ever had a thought of wearing hijab to a place to see what it would feel like? Perhaps on your walk to a grocery store, or drive with it on to the mosque for Jumu3a, or on an outting with your husband or brother to a restaurant? If you decide to do this, make sure that your intent is serious and for Allah s.w.t. Some may find doing this as a useful tool for progression in coming to finally wear hijab. Most importantly make a du3a (a sincere wishful prayer) to Allah s.w.t. to give you strength to go forth with this progressive move to wearing hijab.
Now if you bump into a friend, relative or someone you know who questions you about this, here is what you say, with conviction and from your heart: [Allah swt knows my intention and this is what I feel I need to do to progress in wearing the scarf, and I feel good about it.] If they move forward to complain, just say again [Only Allah s.w.t can understand my intent, and I feel good about what I'm doing]. Period. It's important to let the person know that you are comfortable with your decision and don't forget to smile and feel good about it.
Those who are against wearing hijab will never encourage you in your progression nor agree with you. When they begin go judge you and dictate to you, accept what they have to say as an opinion. Don't make those opinions a problem for you, and let them go. When you challenge the opinion, you are at the same time taking on all the issues that accompany that opinion, issues that you can never solve...and eventually it turns into a new problem for you. Just trust yourself and how you want to progress in this life as a Muslimah.
In general, if you feel in your heart that there is something you can do that will help you in your progression for wearing hijab, then go forth with it in full convicton.
Wa alaikum salam
